Room 3327, New Yorker Hotel
Tesla spent his final decades in increasing poverty and isolation. He moved from hotel to hotel in New York City, always leaving unpaid bills behind. His last home was Room 3327 of the New Yorker Hotel. He never married. He had no children. He fed pigeons in Bryant Park every day and claimed to have fallen in love with a particular white pigeon. He held over 270 patents across 26 countries. On January 7, 1943, a maid entered his room and found him dead. He was eighty-six years old. The SI unit of magnetic flux density bears his name.
