Hawking died March 14, 2018, in Cambridge. It was Pi Day. It was also Einstein's birthday. He was seventy-six. Doctors had given him two years at twenty-one; he lived fifty-five more. His ashes were interred at Westminster Abbey, between Newton and Darwin. The message beamed into space at his memorial carried his voice and music by Vangelis. He left three children and a universe slightly less mysterious.
