“At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love.”
— ernesto che_guevara
Guevara wrote this in Socialism and Man in Cuba, a 1965 letter to Carlos Quijano, editor of Marcha magazine in Uruguay. It is one of his most quoted passages and reflects his belief that genuine commitment to changing the world comes from empathy and love, not hatred.
People think revolution is about anger. About guns and ideology and hatred for your enemies. They're wrong. I left Argentina because I loved what I saw in the faces of people who had nothing. I left Cuba because I loved the idea that no one should have to beg for medicine or food. I went to Bolivia knowing I would probably die there because I loved something bigger than my own survival. Every fight I ever fought started with looking at another human being and refusing to accept that their suffering was normal. You don't risk your life because you hate the world. You risk it because you love it too much to leave it the way it is.
