“I write because I cannot speak.”
— Till Lindemann
From interviews about his poetry books 'Messer' (2002) and 'In stillen Nächten' (2013), on why the loudest performer in rock expresses himself through written words.
My father was a poet. He left when I was four. I grew up in Mecklenburg writing poems no one would read. I could not talk to people. Still can't. On stage I scream because that is not talking, that is something else. But alone, at night, I write. That is where the real voice lives. If you carry something you cannot say out loud, write it down. The page does not judge. It just listens.
