The Story of Alan
The Apple on the Desk
In 1952, Turing reported a burglary at his home in Manchester. Police investigated and discovered he was in a relationship with a man. He was arrested, charged with gross indecency, and given a choice: prison or chemical castration via hormone injections. He chose the injections. On June 7, 1954, he was found dead. A half-eaten apple lay on his desk. In 2013, sixty years later, Queen Elizabeth II granted him a royal pardon.
