Charles Darwin Quotes
Naturalist and biologist
Charles Darwin was naturalist and biologist from Great Britain
“It is not the strongest or the smartest who survives, but the one who adapts best to change.”— Charles Darwin
This phrase is often credited to Darwin, though it is more of a paraphrase of his idea. The core of natural selection: the advantage goes not to the biggest or most aggressive, but to the one who adapts to new conditions. Darwin observed this in the Galapagos: the finches that survived were those with beaks suited to the available food.
The Story of Charles
Down House
Darwin spent the last 40 years of his life at Down House in rural Kent. He suffered from chronic illness: nausea, fatigue, tremors. No diagnosis was ever confirmed. He kept working: he wrote books on coral reefs, earthworms, orchids, and animal emotions. He died on April 19, 1882. He is buried in Westminster Abbey, next to Newton.
