The Story of Rosalind

Legacy

Dead at 37

Rosalind Franklin died April 16, 1958, age 37. Ovarian cancer. Four years later, Watson, Crick, and Wilkins got the Nobel Prize for discovering DNA structure using her data. Nobel rules: no awards to dead people. Her name appeared once in their papers. They called her difficult. History forgot her until decades later. The woman who photographed DNA never got to see credit for it.
