“If I can't run, I'll walk. If I can't walk, I'll crawl. But I will not stop.”
— Celine Dion
Celine said this long before her diagnosis, but the words turned out to be prophetic. In 2022 she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. She lost control of her muscles, including her vocal cords. In 2024 she walked onto the Olympic stage and sang. She is literally living this quote.
I've been singing since I was a child. It was everything I knew how to do. When they told me my body would no longer obey me, I thought it was over. But then I understood: I am not just a voice. I am a person who does not give up. Every day hurts. My muscles do not listen. But I show up. I fight. Not because I am strong. Because giving up hurts more than going on. If you think you can't, try. You will surprise yourself.
