The Last Julio Claudian

In June 68, revolt closed in from the provinces, the Senate declared Nero a public enemy, and he killed himself outside Rome. He was the last Julio Claudian emperor. Much of his image comes through hostile writers like Tacitus, Suetonius, and Cassius Dio, yet even through that filter he remains Rome's most famous symbol of excess, fear, and spectacle.
