The Story of Sergei
A Ghost Who Still Plays
In December 1917, he left Russia with his wife and daughters, carrying almost nothing. He never returned. For 25 years he toured America, 40 concerts a season, never mastering English. He built a Swiss villa modeled on his lost estate. He died March 28, 1943, in Beverly Hills, four days before turning seventy. His concertos still fill halls worldwide.
