The Story of Archimedes
Do Not Touch My Circles
In 212 BC, a Roman soldier broke through Syracuse's walls and found an old man crouched over geometric diagrams drawn in sand. He ordered him to stand. Archimedes looked up calmly and said: 'Do not disturb my circles.' The soldier, enraged, struck him down. Years later, the orator Cicero searched Syracuse for Archimedes' tomb, finding it overgrown with weeds - but still bearing the carved sphere and cylinder he had requested. Cicero wept that a great city had forgotten its greatest mind.
