Kurt Cobain Quotes
Musician
Kurt Cobain was musician from the United States
“I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.”— Kurt Cobain
Kurt said this in multiple interviews throughout his career. It was not a slogan. He had grown up invisible in Aberdeen and then became the most visible person in music overnight. He watched the industry try to package him as a grunge spokesman and pushed back at every turn. For Kurt, being misunderstood honestly was survivable. Being understood for the wrong reasons was not.
The Story of Kurt
April 1994
In March 1994 Kurt overdosed in Rome. Courtney called it an accident. He came back to Seattle and checked into a rehab facility. He climbed over the wall and flew home. On April 5, 1994, he was found dead in the greenhouse above the garage of his Seattle home. He was twenty-seven. He left a note. The last line quoted Neil Young: it's better to burn out than to fade away. The news broke on April 8. MTV cut to a blank screen. Fans gathered in Seattle Center and burned their flannel shirts. In the thirty years since, Nevermind has sold over thirty million copies. Every guitar band that came after owes him something. He did not want to be the voice of a generation. He became one anyway.
