Coleman retired after the 2007 Olympia. Years of extreme lifting destroyed his spine. He has undergone 13 surgeries, including two hip replacements and nine back operations. Fourteen screws and two metal rods hold his spine together. He cannot walk without crutches or a wheelchair. In 2016 he entered the International Sports Hall of Fame.
