Kubrick spent decades preparing a film about Napoleon Bonaparte. He collected over 15,000 still images, read every biography, built a database of 30,000 soldiers to track Napoleon's campaigns. The project was abandoned in 1970 after studio losses on similar films. The research files, discovered in his estate after his 1999 death, filled an entire room. The film was never made.
