In the summer of 330 BC the satrap Bessus and other conspirators seized Darius. When Alexander drew close, they stabbed the king and left the body. Alexander found Darius dead. According to tradition, he covered the body with his own cloak. Darius was given royal honors and buried at Persepolis.
