gaius julius_caesar was politician and military leader from Italy
“I came, I saw, I conquered.”— gaius julius_caesar
Veni, vidi, vici. Caesar reportedly wrote this to the Roman Senate in 47 BC after his rapid victory over Pharnaces II of Pontus at the Battle of Zela. The phrase became one of the most famous three-word sentences in any language.
The Story of gaius
Murdered by senators who feared what he would become
On March 15, 44 BC, a group of senators stabbed Caesar twenty-three times in the Theatre of Pompey. He was fifty-five. The conspirators believed they were saving the Republic. Instead they triggered another civil war that ended the Republic permanently. Caesar's adopted heir Octavian became Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. Caesar's name became a title. Every Roman emperor after him, and later the German Kaisers and Russian Tsars, took their titles from his name.
