The Story of Olga
The Grandmother's Vision
Olga spent her final years trying to bring Christianity to Kyivan Rus. Her son Svyatoslav, a pagan warrior, would not listen. She died around 969 in Kyiv, having failed to convert her own family. But her grandson Vladimir, who remembered her faith, baptized all of Kyivan Rus in 988. The Orthodox Church canonized Olga as a saint, equal to the apostles. The woman who buried men alive and burned cities became one of the holiest figures in Eastern Christianity.
