“At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love.”— ernesto che_guevara
Guevara wrote this in Socialism and Man in Cuba, a 1965 letter to Carlos Quijano, editor of Marcha magazine in Uruguay. It is one of his most quoted passages and reflects his belief that genuine commitment to changing the world comes from empathy and love, not hatred.
The Story of ernesto
Killed at 39 and turned into the face of rebellion itself
In 1965, Guevara left Cuba to spread revolution elsewhere. He spent months in the Congo, where the campaign failed completely. In late 1966, he entered Bolivia with a small guerrilla force, hoping to ignite a continent-wide uprising. The Bolivian army, trained and supported by CIA advisors, hunted his group for months. On October 8, 1967, Guevara was captured in a ravine near La Higuera. He was executed the next day. He was 39 years old. His body was displayed to journalists to prove he was dead. His image, taken from a photograph by Alberto Korda in 1960, became the most reproduced portrait in history. He left behind diaries, letters, and a legacy that people still argue over. To some he is a murderer and a failed economist. To others he is the man who gave up everything comfortable to fight for people who had nothing.
